[researcher][00:00] Hello. This interview follows your two week participation in our study on Instagram usage and your mobile ranking app. Thank you for completing the logbook entries. Today, we'll talk through some questions, reflections and feelings about your experience. Just a quick reminder that this interview is being recorded as outlined in the content form. If you have any concerns about concerns about that, please let us know. And of course, you are free to skip any questions of any time if you it makes you uncomfortable to answer. So hello, hello again. And just to begin, could you tell me about your main hobbies or activities that you enjoy doing in your free time?

[participant][00:38] Um, yes, I would say that I like going out with my friends. I like to go on blogs, but also shopping, and I just recently started looking into investing.

[researcher][00:53] Okay, so is there any ways that does your mobile banking app and Instagram support or interfere with these hobbies

[participant][01:04] I will set up for Instagram. For example, if me and my friends want to go out to just like, you know, look for new restaurants or place to do something at. We just like, look on Instagram. But and also for investing, since I just, like, recently started the investment, investment part of my mobile banking app has been, like, really helpful. So I will say that those two apps can help my hobbies. I can there's two ways.

[researcher][01:38] Before starting this two week period. What will you describe like your typical interactions with Instagram and the mobile banking app?

[participant][01:50] So I think that for the mobile banking app, I would usually like use it when I want to check my balance or just want to see if I got paid for my student job, but also planning to send money to my friend or anything like that. And then for Instagram, I will say that I I use Instagram to talk to my friends, like send each other real but also like messages. And, yeah, that's it. Okay.

[researcher][02:21] So have you ever set a screen time limit or similar control on your phone to manage one of these apps?

[participant][02:28] Never. I've never, no, I don't really, because I know that it wouldn't work on me. So I never even tried to set like a time limit for Instagram or anything like that. And then I don't really see a reason as to why, at least for now, I actually just put a screen time limit on my banking app.

[researcher][02:51] Okay, so as you complete the blog book entries over this two weeks, did you begin to notice any emerging patterns in one or how you use each app?

[participant][03:02] Um, yeah, so I will say that I noticed that, for example, for Instagram, I will use Instagram like, throughout the day, so during the morning, for a bit or like, while I'm running for like, the public transportation but also when I'm about to go on a lunch break. A lunch break, I don't really make my lunch at home, so I just check to see, to see my balance, and see, like, like, What shall I eat? Basically, if I can, I can go for like, a seven Euro sandwich, or, like, you know, just a meal a bit cheaper. And, yeah, that's it for the mobile linking app.

[researcher][03:43] Okay, so did you ever find yourself searching directly from one of these apps to manager?

[participant][03:54] Um, yeah, sorry. So I would say, for example, for Instagram, whenever I see something I want to buy, like, I want, sometimes I get like, advertisement for like, clothes and stuff like that. Then I would just, like, immediately go on my mobile bank. Yeah, I'm just to see if I should or, like, if I can afford it, and that's it. And then I don't really have any other like, I don't have any reason to just go from mobile banking app to Instagram, I think so, yeah.

[researcher][04:26] Okay, so you already talked about like, where you're most likely to open the apps. What about like, what vertical times of the day that you notice you were not opening the apps or you are less likely to open them? Like, did you? Yeah.

[participant][04:41] So especially for the past two weeks, I've been going to the library at you need to study. So I did notice that during that time I will try my best not to go on Instagram. So yeah, I would say, like if I'm in a mood, like, if I. Just think that I should study that I don't really go on Instagram.

[researcher][05:06] Okay, what about like, the emotional changes before doing or after they're using either app? Like, did you notice anything?

[participant][05:13] So for Instagram, I didn't notice that I using it. No that. For example, if I need a distraction or something like that, I would just like go and watch some reels, and then I will be entertained for like, a bit of time, but then afterwards, I will still feel like a bit unproductive or just totally indifferent to like what I just saw on Instagram. So that will be like some emotional changes. And then for the mobile banking app, well, after a night or anything, I would just like check the morning after just to see if I like, I spend a lot of money of you know, I didn't go like too much damage. And that will be like some emotional changes I can think of right now.

[researcher][06:02] Okay, so your actual average daily usage was eight three minutes per day for Instagram and 17 minutes per day for banking app. So before you got this result, like, did you expect it these and like, did you feel after this holiday.

[participant][06:23] Um, so for Instagram, especially because I know that I shall be like focusing on studying, I will say that it's still quite a bit to be honest. And for the mobile banking app, um, yeah, still, 70 minutes is also a lot. So yeah, I think that it's it's too much.

[researcher][06:47] Yeah. Okay, so knowing your actual usage, do you think participating in this study will influence of your usage of these apps in the future?

[participant][06:58] Of course, I think that maybe I should try to set a limit controls on Instagram. And yeah, we'll try my best, especially now that exams are coming up, to just, you know, reduce that number.

[researcher][07:14] Okay, so thank you for everything. And is there anything else that you observed during the study that has not been covered in this questions, what do you feel relevant to add?

[participant][07:26] No, I feel like, no. I feel like a lot of like has been covered, and I don't really see like what I can add to this research. So, yeah, okay.

[researcher][07:40] Thank you for that, before your time. Thank you. Bye.
